I just got my Cloudy Collection prints in the mail. Marian Bantjes (whose print is hilarious), Ray Fenwick (whose print is also hilarious), Nate Williams and more, all in glorious two-colour and blind emboss letterpress. The prints are sweet and the letterpress quality is so gorgeous (printed by the fabulous Boxcar Press), they’re a sight to be seen close up. Check ‘em out, I am in awe of the artists founder David Huyck has wooed into his collaborative quarterly.

This week: food. Sort of. Email your pics and scans to Love Letters, and we’ll put them up every wednesday! loveletters@veekee.ca is the ticket.
Fluff - Marshmallow in a jar. Thanks to Jeanie Andronyk, who says “I love the FLUFF part!”. So does Love Letters, thanks Jeanie!

Cyrillic Fruit - A fruit grocery bag in from Steph Chan‘s travels. One cyrillic orange please, fruit market man.

Adam’s Chewing Gum - I was at that happy place, the Antique Mall, the other day, and found these packs of retro chewing gum by the front counter. I wish we could have left everything at this pre-videogame point in design!

This week’s Love Letters are from places familiar. Feel free to collaborate! Email your pics or scans to vikki@veekee.ca, with the subject ‘Love Letters’.
Tabu - Italian liquorice candy from the Italian Centre. I love that script writing below the logo. Can anyone translate it?

Alberta Place - a downtown hotel that obviously (gloriously!) hasn’t updated its logo since the seventies. I walk past it almost every day, and gawk at the buxom nature of these letters.

Now Renting - a handpainted sign in a sea of black and orange ‘For Rent’ signs. I would love to learn how to paint signs the old-school way. Maybe there’s a book at the library…

Eye Candy, Love Letters, Typography

Welcome to Love Letters! It’s no secret that unique type and lettering make my heart sing. Every time I see a candy package, an apartment building or a business card with some custom lettering, I try to document it somehow (if it’s candy related, I’ll devour the contents in the name of typography – the lettering guarantees it’s tasty). All these pictures and ephemera live in a box in my workshop, but in the interest of sharing, I’m going to start posting them up here in a weekly series.
And oh yes, this is a collaborative project. If you’ve got some fancy found lettering you’d like to see on Love Letters, drop me note with a picture (preferably 500px wide), the place you found it, and a little blurb about just what it is that makes you send in your particular Love Letter.
Las Vegas neon sign graveyard

Okay, I guess I live under a rock, I only found out about the place where Vegas’ old neon signs go to die yesterday. More images can be found here.
Lemons

12 pack of lemons, in a yellow net bag, with this great wrapper stapled to the top. I could just eat up ‘lemons’, it doesn’t even look a little sour!
Eden Lily

A flower and gift shop in Edmonton, with the type treatment deserving of a flower shop. Reminiscent of (or is it actually?) Betsy Dunlap‘s calligraphy.
