Eye Candy, Pattern

Portuguese packaging

Portuguese package design has such a beautiful, satisfying, delightful sense of colour and sheer joy to it, don’t you think? Those are Claus Porto soaps above - seeing a whole array of them in a shop makes your life just that much brighter, and I’d hazard that the soap is equally as delightful as its cover!

Eye Candy, Handlettering

Custom Lettering

Oh yes, we all know how much I love handlettering, so this definitely deserves a post. The good folks over at Lettercult just released The Year in Custom Letters, 2009 edition. All fifteen pages of handiwork and custom vector work make me swoony, and better yet, they’ll be picking their top ten out of this pile of gold tomorrow. Via Drawn.

Eye Candy

Rob Ryan

Rob Ryan cuts charming, beautiful things out of paper with scalpels and lots of art-love. His illustrations feel so honest to handmade craft which I find really wonderful in a world of vector drawing programs. At the same time he’s found lots of large scale possibilities for his low-tech style, such as collaboration with tea towel printers To Dry For. What a great spot to be in. Go take a look!

Eye Candy

Vintage drink labels

Holy moly. I just came across a set of 163 flickr photos of vintage beer cans - look at those flourishes and scrollwork! Now why can’t more drink packaging look like that nowadays? Via The Dieline.
