Maija Louekari + In Good Company

And while we’re on the subject of Marimekko, textile designer and illustrator Maija Louekari has recently illustrated a tableware series called In Good Company. Oh, to eat off those plates and drink from those cups! Make sure to spend a moment on Maija’s website, it is chock full of delicious colour and line.

Sanna Annukka + nineteen seventy three

Finnish illustrator Sanna Annukka has made some gorrrrgeous greeting cards for nineteen seventy three. Gold metallics on kraft paper? Yes, yes, yes! If you’re not sure you’ve seen her work before, you may recognize her Kanteleen kutsu print for Marimekko. [via Print + Pattern]

Love Letters, Typography

Love Letters | The Texan + Apotheke + Barber

A little bit of a potpourri this week—some handpainted interior signs at an apartment building called (wait for it) The Texan, a fancy pharmacy in Switzerland, and a decidedly DIY set of letters.

Don’t forget to send in your favourite apartment building signs for an upcoming Love Letters post—loveletters@veekee.ca is the ticket.

The Texan - some decidedly medieval handpainted lettering in The Texan apartment building. Even the laundry room has a title painted in this style. Wow. [Thanks, Mary!]

Apotheke - The fanciest pharmacy you’ll ever visit. In Switzerland, that is. [Thanks, Jim!]

Barber - Oh yes, Virginia. Housepainting brushes make type too. [via Jeanie via Uono]

Letterpress

Letterpress, explained

Thank-you to the Guardian for posting this little slideshow gem on the art of letterpress as part of the Disappearing Acts series. It features Hand & Eye press in London, and I’ve never seen it explained better. [via LETPRESS].
