Love Letters | Fresh Coffee + Now Hiring + Borax

Next week’s theme is an ode to those last bastions of gussying up a plain old building: apartment building signs. Painted on glass, mounted on the outside, hanging above the entryway…you know you’ve got a favourite you always pass by! And this week:

Fresh Coffee - on the side of a lemon yellow, side-of-the-road ice cream shack.

Now Hiring - Somewhere out there is a business you really should work for, and it has a sign on the ground outside its front door that looks like this. [Thanks to Sarah of Famous Last Words!]

Borax - Viva Borax! May more companies retain their old packaging designs well into this century.

Brie Harrison

I first came across Brie Harrison’s work in Mike Perry’s most excellent Over & Over book of patterns. Every time I see her work, I sigh a little sigh. I think you understand, no?

Cloudy Collection

I just got my Cloudy Collection prints in the mail. Marian Bantjes (whose print is hilarious), Ray Fenwick (whose print is also hilarious), Nate Williams and more, all in glorious two-colour and blind emboss letterpress. The prints are sweet and the letterpress quality is so gorgeous (printed by the fabulous Boxcar Press), they’re a sight to be seen close up. Check ‘em out, I am in awe of the artists founder David Huyck has wooed into his collaborative quarterly.

Pepa Prieto

Line work, solid colours, decoration and pop. Pepa Prieto makes these amazing, often intricate and grafitti flavoured artworks with just the right flavour of pop and sketch. Don’t forget to look at her handlettering as well, it’s wonderfully whimsical. Oh, and did I mention she’s made graphics for an entire Boeing 737 plane? [via Mint]
